BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition 2008

I’ve just received the results from my 12 entries into this year’s BBC Widlife Photographer of the Year Competiton.  The world’s most prestitgious wildlife competiton, it attracted a record 32,000 entries this year alone!

So how did i go?  Well i’d love to say that i featured yet again (as in 2005) however my entries made it through to the semi-final stage but not commended.  I entered 12 images across four categories (a maximum of three images per category is allowed).  Six images reached semi-final stages, which is half…and I’m wrapped with that!  The four categories were:  In Praise of Plants (the category that did so well for me in the past), Wild Places, Black + White, and Creative Visions of Nature.

Here are some semi-final images:

  1. I love the aerial you can make the image into a number of things – Great talking point if hung in a lounge/dining room.

  2. Tom,

great result with the competition. I was wondering how you went as I received the results for my entries this week as well. My two entries made it to the semis as well, very happy with that.

We are having the BBC exhibition of the 2007 winners right now in Newcastle, always great to visit.

    Cheers,
    André

  3. Hi Andre, Congratulations on your semis also. I came to Newscastle back in 2006 to open the BBC travelling exhibition there. I wish I could be invited back again! Guess I’ll have to pull my finger out and shoot some more award-winning images.

  4. Hello Tom,
Your landscape photos are really impressive. Colorful, with great use of light! I also submitted 3 of my wildife images in BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (my area of interest has to do with teeth and claws!!) and 2 of them reached the semi-final stage! Greetings from Greece, great site!

    Teo

  5. Brilliant photos, especially the last two — mountain ash and shadows.

    Cheers! TopL
