Melbourne Storm

_MG_2398 storm melb

For those of you in Melbourne tonight (Friday night), you would have experienced this. Literally shot less than 30 mins ago, i saw this squall line coming on the radar and ducked down the beach to capture a few frames. With it pissing down with rain outside now, it’s quite pleasant to be sitting here knowing I got one shot in the bag!

Apologises for those not from Victoria. We don’t get many storms here (say 6 a year average), so it’s exciting for us to see lightning (and rain for that matter!).

TECHS: Canon 5D Mark II (who cares!), 30 secs, F2.8, focus set to infinity, tripod, RAW image converted using ACR, vignette, clarity, customised action, lucky shot.

  1. Hard to get many of those that are worth keeping, but that’s pretty good Tom.

  2. Yay, another Melbourne Storm, I’ve only seen 2 and they are the ‘ducks guts’. If you ducked(!) down to the beach, where are the Brighton Beach Boxes?
That is one mighty bruise of a sky, beats mine, A+, love those colours!

  3. Great shot Tom, I live in the Dandenong Ranges and the thought did cross my mind to head up to the Trig point for a view of the Bay but was too late, 25mm in 30 mins…..cracker of a storm

  4. Nice shot Tom ! It was great to see a couple of decent lightshows over the long w/e.
Friday and Monday nights in particular were as good as I’ve seen anywhere in the country… It’s a pity ones this good are generally about 1 in 3-5yr events south of the ranges in Vicco isn’t it.

    cheers,
